Kat's Poetry Pile

Red Road

interstate
take me home
who comes here belongs here
but it hurts so much

what could've been
what would've been
white-knuckling the drive
to my alma mater

homecoming
seeing friends
all except for the one i lost
a tragedy of my own doing

he hates my guts now
trail of hurt
trail of blood
a road of red

ran out flat
nothing left but a memory
of a critter that once was
made worse

a call espousing how badly
i fucked up the one good thing
i had going for me
what it would feel

to be meat and blood homogenate
strewn across i-64
and i-81
debris on the road

a limbless body staring at me
dodged at 70 miles an hour
memories of fall
tears flow towards the chesapeake again

waffle house
and introspection
a new chapter of my life
and im gonna spend it alone

i can't stop hurting
red road home
blurred with exhaustion
and tears

but i made it home.
